Intumescent coatings on steel, every reading on record
Set up each steel member with its section, fire period and the thickness band from the specification. On site, type in the dry film thickness readings as you take them. The app takes off the primer, judges the result against the band, and keeps every reading.

What goes on each member
- The member as specified. Section, fabricator mark, fire period, exposure and section factor, and the minimum and maximum thickness from the line of the take-off it comes from.
- Readings as they were taken. Primer, dry film and wet film readings typed in on the phone. Primer and topcoat are taken off before the result is judged against the specified band.
- Who, where and with what gauge. Each set records the gauge and its calibration reference, who applied the coat, who took the readings and where on the member.
- Kept, not overwritten. Readings are added, never edited. A member that needs another coat shows it on the register, and the earlier readings stay.
- The band comes from your spec. The app does not work out the thickness for you. It holds the band your specification gives and checks the readings against it.
When the readings are questioned
Every record in the app keeps its history in plain English, with the person and the date, so a reading taken in August is still the reading taken in August when the building is handed over. The same history runs on fire doors, seals and walls.

On Irish jobs
On Irish projects the coating record backs the fire protection specification for the steel at handover, and often an ancillary certificate for the Assigned Certifier under BCAR. What is asked for is simple to say and hard to produce later: each member, the product and batch applied, the thickness measured, and photos.
DoorInspec+ records it against each member as the work is done:
- the section;
- the period and band from your specification;
- every dry film thickness reading, with the gauge and its calibration reference;
- the batch numbers;
- the photos.
Readings are only ever added; a new set sits beside the old one.
The app checks the readings against the band your specification gives. It does not calculate the thickness needed, and it does not approve the coating: that stays with the specifier and whoever signs off.
Questions
Does it connect to our DFT gauge?
No. Readings are typed in as you take them, and the gauge and its calibration reference are recorded with them.
Does it calculate the thickness we need?
No. The band comes from your specification. The app checks your readings against it.
Can a reading be changed later?
No. Readings are only ever added. A new set sits beside the old one, with who took it and when.
What does the coating record show at handover?
For each member:
- its section;
- the period and band;
- every reading, with the gauge used;
- the batch numbers;
- the photos;
- who took the readings, and when.
Does it record who took the readings?
Yes. Each reading carries the person who took it. The qualification they held on that day is recorded with their work.
