Fire door inspection app for Ireland

Fire door inspection software built for the people doing the surveys.

DoorInspec+ is a fire door inspection app for contractors and surveyors in Ireland. Survey every doorset on your phone, check by check, with photos, even with no signal. Each door is pinned to the drawing, faults are logged against that door, and the report goes out on your own letterhead.

A fire door survey record for door FD-118: Fault, two findings open, one repaired and awaiting re-survey, with the doorset details beside it

What the survey covers

  • Every check on the doorset. Leaf, frame, gaps, architrave, intumescent and smoke seals, hinges, lock or latch, closer, hold-open device, glazing, signage and the firestopping to the frame. Each one is Yes, No, N/A or Not verified, and Not verified needs a reason.
  • Faults against the exact door. A No raises a finding on that doorset with its photo. The door shows Fault, Advisory or No faults found, and every finding carries on to its repair.
  • Pinned on the drawings. Upload the floor plans and drop a pin on each door. On site you tap the pin and start the survey, so nobody hunts for FD-214 on the wrong corridor.
  • Re-surveys that start from the last one. Next visit, every door is there with its last result. Re-survey just the repaired items, or do the full survey and carry over what has not changed.
  • BM TRADA ART numbers if you use them. Turn them on for a project and each finding can carry its ART number. They stay off unless you want them.
  • Tags on the door. Fix an NFC or QR tag to a doorset and the next person scans it to open that door’s record.

The fix picked at the door, the report in your name

When a check finds a fault, the operative picks the fix there and then: new closer, re-hang, new intumescent strip, from your own list of jobs. The office prices it from your rate card. The condition report goes out on your letterhead with no mark of ours on it, and every change to a door is kept with who made it and when. See remedial works and quotes.

On Irish jobs

Most fire door work in Ireland ends up in a file someone else relies on. It might be the Assigned Certifier’s ancillary certificates under Building Control (BCAR), the conditions of a fire safety certificate, or the duty under the Fire Services Acts on whoever is in control of the building. Each of them asks the same things about a door.

DoorInspec+ keeps that record for every door:

  • which door it is;
  • what it is, from its label or certification;
  • what was found;
  • the photos taken at the door;
  • who checked it, and when;
  • what was done next.

The app records what the surveyor found. The surveyor, and whoever signs off, decide what it means.

Ireland sets no statutory inspection interval for fire doors. So the record of what you found, and when you found it, is what shows the duty is being met. In a hospital or a nursing home, it is the record a fire officer, an insurer or a HIQA inspector asks to see.

Questions

Is DoorInspec+ an app or software?

Both. Crews use the iPhone app on site, and the office uses the same records in any web browser.

Does it work with no signal?

Yes. The phone records with no signal, photos included, and sends it all when the signal comes back.

Can a survey be changed after it is submitted?

Not quietly. A submitted survey is frozen. Every change to a door after that is kept in its history, with who made it and when.

Does it work on Android?

iPhone now, Android coming. The office side runs in a web browser on any computer.

Is it only for fire doors?

No. The same app records firestopping, walls and ceilings and intumescent coatings on steel. Start with doors and add the rest when the work changes.

Is there a legal inspection interval for fire doors in Ireland?

No fixed interval is set in Irish law. The duty under section 18 of the Fire Services Act 1981, as amended in 2003, is a continuing one: fire safety measures must be applied at all times. Our guide explains what that means for a fire door: How often should fire doors be inspected in Ireland?

Can I use it for Q-Mark or other third-party scheme paperwork?

It records the door-by-door information those schemes ask for: the door, its label, what was found, the photos, and who checked it and when. The scheme’s rules are yours to follow, and the app does not certify a door.

Does it record the door’s label?

Yes. The door’s rating and the details on its label or certification are recorded with the door, with a photo.
